Where the eye comes to rest
Jesus bows his head over clasped hands in this calm, close-up portrait. Nothing else enters the scene: only the pale robe, the long hair and the act of prayer.
Rosi worked the picture almost entirely in soft whites, greys and browns, 18 colours in all. Darker stitches mark the folds of the sleeves and the gaps between the fingers, and lighter threads run through the hair and across the robe. The hands sit near the centre, just below the lowered eyes, and that is where your gaze comes to rest.
